Description:  Mid-Mountain. Here is an original photo that I took of a Pennsylvania Railroad train West of Altoona, Pennsylvania, during mid-June of 1966. Shown here (R to L) are PRR engines #6040 and #6055. Both are EF-30A's built by EMD in 1966 and rated at 3,000 horsepower each. They are pushing a westbound mixed-cargo freight train up the Allegheny Mountains, but will uncouple at Gallitzin and return to East Altoona for yet another run up the Mountains.

Description:  Here is a postal card entitled "Horseshoe Curve." No Postmark. Caption On Reverse: "Eastbound locomotives passing the Pride & Joy of the P.R.R. K-4s #1361 on the world famous Horseshoe Curve." Pictured on the left is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #1361, a K-4S (4-6-2) "Pacific" built in Juniata during May of 1918 and retired in May of 1956 after 38 years of faithful service. Pictured on the right are Penn Central Railroad engines #6040 and perhaps two other units whose numbers are not recorded. #6040 is an SD-40 built (for the PRR) in February of 1966 and rated at 3,000 horsepower. The photographer's name and the date are not recorded.

They are pushing a westbound mixed-cargo freight train up the Allegheny Mountains, but will uncouple at Gallitzin and return to East Altoona for yet another run up the Mountains.

Description:  Everyday. Here is an original 35mm color slide by an unidentified photographer that was taken in Hollidaysburg, Pennsylvania, during August of 1976. Prominent here is recently-repainted Conrail engine #6303, an SD40 built by GM-EMD as Pennsylvania Railroad number "6050" in February of 1966, renumbered "6303" in preparation for the PRR-NYC merger, and then owned by Conrail under the latter number. Along with ex-Penn Central GP35 #2397, it's poised to haul a train of newly-repaired freight cars to Altoona and elsewhere.

Description:  AHC. Here is an original 35mm color slide by an unidentified photographer that was taken at the Horseshoe Curve near Altoona, Pennsylvania, in November of 1977. At the left is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #1361, a K-4S (4-6-2) "Pacific" built in Juniata during May of 1918, retired in September of 1956, enshrined at the Horseshoe Curve on 08 June 1957, restored for excursion service during 1987-1988, withdrawn from service and disassembled because of safety concerns, and still not reassembled/ restored/resurrected. Meanwhile, at the right, a three-unit Conrail TOFC train rounds the Curve on its way up the Allegheny Mountains to Gallitzin and points West.
