Description:  Wood. Here is a photo taken by Don Wood. It was published originally in the August 1957 issue of "Railroad" magazine, page 76. Partial Caption: "The Pennsylvania still uses some steam power, including No. 6738, shown wheeling a long string of freight out of Enola, Pa." Shown here is PRR engine #6738, an M-1B (4-8-2) "Mountain" built as an M-1A by the Baldwin Locomotive Works during June of 1930, rebuilt in Juniata as an M-1B in October of 1948, and retired in September of 1959. Also visible to the right is PRR engine #920, a K-4S (4-6-2) "Pacific" built in Juniata in July of 1917 and retired in 1959.

They were published originally in the March 1964 issue of "Trains" magazines, page 34-35. Photo by Don Wood. Photo Caption: "On and off their 2-C+C-2 frames, GG-1's under repair fill the shop bay in Wilmington, Del., where Pennsylvania handles all major overhaul work on its electric locomotive roster." Visible in the center is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #4893, a GG-1 (2-C-C-2) electric built in Juniata during April of 1940 and rated at 4,620 horsepower.

Photo Caption: "On the eve of dieselization, M-1a 6783 had somehow escaped relocation of her turbo-generator and still presented an authentic PRR front end. Photographer [Robert R.] Malinoski caught up with her on Middle Division train M-9 at 2:13 p.m. on October 11, 1956, a mile east of Newport, Pa., with consist of 59 cars." Shown here is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #6783, an M-1A (4-8-2) "Mountain" built by the Lima Locomotive Works during March of 1930 and retired in August of 1959 and after 29 years of faithful service.
