Title:  PRR "World's Fastest Locomotive," E-7SA, 1949
Description:  Here is a postal card entitled "World's Fastest Locomotive. Pennsylvania Railroad's No. 7002 ~ Record 127.1 Miles an Hour. Chicago Railroad Fair 1949.'" No Postmark. Caption On Reverse: "The world's fastest run by a railroad train was made by the 'Broadway Limited' of the Pennsylvania Railroad on Monday, June 12,1905, when it ran 127.1 miles an hour between AY Tower and Elida, Ohio. The 'Broadway Limited' was pulled by coal-burning steam Locomotive 7002 ~ and although many swift runs have been made in recent years by steam, electric, and diesel locomotives, none has equalled the 127.1 mile-an-hour record established in 1905. At the Chicago Railroad Fair of 1949, Locomotive 7002 stands on a section of P.R.R. standard roadbed with rails weighing 155 pounds to the yard ~ heaviest in the world." The photographer is not identified. This #7002 is an E-7SA (4-4-2) "Atlantic" built in Juniata as E-2A number "8063" during 1902, rebuilt as an E-7SA in October of 1918, withdrawn from service in August of 1939, renumbered "7002" in June of 1949, and presently on display at the Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania in Strasburg.

Photo Caption: "To entertain a recent model railroader convention in Baltimore, Md., the Pennsy de-mothballed the old-timers it keeps at Northumberland, Pa., and sent them down behind a Geep. From the GP-7 back, the train includes 2-8-0 No. 1187, 4-4-0 No. 1223, 4-4-2 No. 7002, the John Bull (on flats), and open-ended coaches." #8548 is an ES-15M road switcher built by GM-EMD in September of 1953 and rated at 1,500 horsepower.

It was included in a six-page camera study entitled "Pennsy Photo Section" that was published originally in the August 2001 issue of "Trains" magazine, page 36. Partial Caption: "For the Chicago Railroad Fair of 1949, this locomotive ~ in reality, No. 8063 ~ was given the number of a famous sister, engine 7002. In 1905, the 7002 made headlines with an ultra-fast run across western Ohio on the crack 'Pennsylvania Special.' The 7002 was cut up in 1934, so 8063 was given her identity for the Fair." It's presently on display at the Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania in Strasburg.
