Description:  Here is page one of a three-page article by Denis Connell entitled "Altoona Sunday!" It was published originally in the January 1988 issue of "Railpace Newsmagazine," page 22. Partial Caption: "Conrail SD40 helpers 6296-6290 assist restored PRR E8's 5898-5706 on a seventeen-car consist around Horseshoe Curve on November 1, 1987." From here, it's up to Gallitzin, through one tunnel, around the wye, through the New Portage Tunnel, down "The Mountain" and around the Curve to Altoona.

Description:  #1361. Here is a duplicate 35mm color slide by an unidentified photographer that was taken in Altoona, Pennsylvania, on 3 October 1987. In the foreground is former Pennsylvania Railroad engine #1361, a K-4S (4-6-2) "Pacific" built in Juniata during May of 1918, retired in September of 1956, enshrined at the Horseshoe Curve on 8 June 1957, and restored for excursion service in April of 1987. Passing by the AMTRAK Passenger Station is an eastbound trailer train pulled by three Conrail locomotives: #6311, #6485, and #5059. Photo taken from the 12th Street Footbridge.

Description:  AHC. Here is an original 35mm color slide by an unidentified photographer that was taken at the Horseshoe Curve near Altoona, Pennsylvania, in November of 1977. At the left is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #1361, a K-4S (4-6-2) "Pacific" built in Juniata during May of 1918, retired in September of 1956, enshrined at the Horseshoe Curve on 08 June 1957, and restored for excursion service during 1987-1988. Meanwhile, at the right, a three-unit Conrail TOFC train rounds the Curve on its way up the Allegheny Mountains to Gallitzin and points West.
