Shown here (L to R) are Pennsylvania Railroad engines #2500, #2508, and #2502. Sunday. Here is an original photo that I took of a Pennsylvania Railroad train in Altoona, Pennsylvania, on 02 May 1965. Shown here (R to L) are PRR engines #2229, #2501, and #2529. #2229 is an EF-22 built by EMD in 1963 and rated at 2,200 horsepower. #2501 and #2529 are GF-25's built by General Electric and rated at 2,500 horsepower each; #2501 was built in 1962, but #2529 was built in 1964. They are pulling a 45-car westbund manifest freight train through the Altoona Passenger Station on their way up the Allegheny Mountains to Gallitzin and points West. The caboose is N-8 #478159. This photo taken from the 12th Street Bridge. |

Horseshoe Curve-1966. Here is an original photo that I took at the Horseshoe Curve near Altoona, Pennsylvania, in May of 1966. Shown here (L to R) are Pennsylvania Railroad engines #2302, #2501, and two more units whose road numbers are not recorded. #2302 is an EF-22 built by GM-EMD in November of 1964 and rated at 2,250 horsepower. #2501 is a GF-25 built by General Electric in August of 1962 and rated at 2,250 horsepower. In this context, they're passing under four-track Signal Bridge 2416/7 with a merchandise freight train on their way up the Allegheny Mountains to Gallitzin and points West. (#4 of 39) |
