Description:
Here is page one of an 11-page article by Bert Pennypacker entitled "All About America's Largest Locomotive Fleet." It was published originally in the April 1964 issue of "Trains" magazine, page 38. Photo Caption: "Low-nose GE U25B's 2500, 2501, and 2502 exert a total of 7500 h.p. climbing westward around Horse Shoe Curve." Shown here (L to R) are Pennsylvania Railroad engines #2500, #2508, and #2502. All were built by General Electric in 1962 and rated at 2,500 horsepower each; #2500 and #2502 were constructed in August, while #2508 was built one month later.

PRR 2229, EF-22, 1965
Description:
Sunday. Here is an original photo that I took of a Pennsylvania Railroad train in Altoona, Pennsylvania, on 02 May 1965. Shown here (R to L) are PRR engines #2229, #2501, and #2529. #2229 is an EF-22 built by EMD in 1963 and rated at 2,200 horsepower. #2501 and #2529 are GF-25's built by General Electric and rated at 2,500 horsepower each; #2501 was built in 1962, but #2529 was built in 1964. They are pulling a 45-car westbund manifest freight train through the Altoona Passenger Station on their way up the Allegheny Mountains to Gallitzin and points West. The caboose is N-8 #478159. This photo taken from the 12th Street Bridge.

Description:
Horseshoe Curve-1966. Here is an original photo that I took at the Horseshoe Curve near Altoona, Pennsylvania, in May of 1966. Shown here (L to R) are Pennsylvania Railroad engines #2302, #2501, and two more units whose road numbers are not recorded. #2302 is an EF-22 built by GM-EMD in November of 1964 and rated at 2,250 horsepower. #2501 is a GF-25 built by General Electric in August of 1962 and rated at 2,250 horsepower. In this context, they're passing under four-track Signal Bridge 2416/7 with a merchandise freight train on their way up the Allegheny Mountains to Gallitzin and points West. (#4 of 39)

Portraits 2. Here is a diesel locomotive portrait by an unidentified photographer that was taken near Chicago, Illinois, on 30 May 1966. Prominent here is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #2501, a GF-25 built by General Electric in August of 1962 and rated at 2,500 horsepower. Partially visible at the left is PRR engine #2437, an AF-25 constructed by the American Locomotive Company in December of 1965 and rated at 2,500 horsepower. (#1 of 30)
