Description:  Here is page three of a ten-page cover article by William M. Moedinger, Jr., entitled "The Road To Paradise." It was published originally in the April 1961 issue of "Trains" magazine, page 27. Photo Caption: "Shifter 31 was awaiting I.C.C. O.K. when this photo was taken at East Strasburg depot (ex-Reading station from East Petersburg)." Strasburg Rail Road engine #31 is an 0-6-0 shifter built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works during August of 1908. Visible on the left is SRC engine #1, an 0-4-0 HL-20 locomotive built by Plymouth during October of 1926.

Description:  Here is page nine of a ten-page cover article by William M. Moedinger, Jr., entitled "The Road To Paradise." It was published originally in the April 1961 issue of "Trains" magazine, page 33. Top Left-Hand Photo Caption: "In the absence of a coal tower, truck with hydraulic lift serves as a fueling facility for ex-CNR 0-6-0." Strasburg Rail Road engine #31 is an 0-6-0 shifter built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works during August of 1908. According to Gary Everhart, "it has worn several numbers through the years": originally it was Grand Trunk Western's #1708; then Canadian National's #7157 circa 1923, renumbered CN #7240 in 1952, and renumbered CN #7312 in 1957; then purchased, reconditioned, and renumbered SRC #31 in 1960 ~ some 52 years after it first hit the rails! Bottom Right-Hand Photo: Shown here is SRC engine #1, an 0-4-0 HL-20 locomotive built by Plymouth during October of 1926.
