Altoona Action. Here is a duplicate 35mm color slide via Al Chione that was taken at the East Roundhouse in Altoona, Pennsylvania, c. 1964. The photographer is not identified. Shown here is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #8973, a BS-16M built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works in May of 1951 and rated at 1,600 horsepower. During the apex of the "Age of Steam," this Roundhouse had 50 locomotive-servicing stalls operating 24/7/365! Photo taken from the 17th Street Bridge in Juniata.
