Right Column, Bottom Photo Caption: "No. 12 is the smallest of the East Broad Top's six Mikados, and the only one of its class." The engineer slows EBT engine #12 to a crawl as the train pulls into the Passenger Station after making another round-trip sojourn to Colgate Grove and back. Visible in the distance are some of the EBT's shop buildings, twin smoke stacks and all.

PRR engine #242 is an L-1S (2-8-2) "Mikado" built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works during November of 1916 and retired in February of 1958 after 42 years of faithful service. Note the coast-to-coast auxiliary tender with its own front-end ladder. This photo comes from a color slide set entitled "Steam In Action from Virginia to Ohio" that's produced and distributed by Blackhawk Films of Davenport, Iowa (880-16).

Description:  Here is page two of a five-page camera study entitled "Pennsy Steam Engines Will Be Sent To Museums." It was published originally in the July 1968 issue of "Railroad" magazine, page 16. Top Left-Hand Photo Caption: "No. 7688 (H-10), one of three PRR 2-8-0's now at Northumberland, the others being 1187 (H-3) and 2846 (H-6sb)." Engine #7688 is an H-10S (2-8-0) "Consolidated" built by the Lima Locomotive Works in September of 1915. Top Right-Hand Photo Caption: "No. 94, a 4-wheel switcher, class A-5s, with 8-wheel tender." Engine #94 is an A-5S (0-4-0) switcher built in Juniata in January of 1917. Bottom Photo Caption: "Locos shown above are stored indoors, as are 2-8-2 No. 520 and 4-4-2 No. 460, the 'Lindbergh Special' engine." Engine #520 is an L-1S (2-8-2) "Mikado" built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works in December of 1916 and retired in August of 1957. And engine #460 is an E-6S (4-4-2) "Atlantic" built in Juniata in August of 1914. All of these locomotives are presently on display at the Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania.

Description:  Here is an original 35mm color slide by an unidentified photographer that was taken in Northumberland, Pennsylvania, in October of 1969. Shown here (L to R) are an unidentified Penn Central "Geep," Pennsylvania Railroad engine #520, and six more vintage steam locomotives from the PRR's historical collection. The context is provided by Robert Emerson & Kurt Bell in their article entitled "The Pennsylvania Railroad's Historical Collection" that was published in the Fall 1996 issue of "Vintage Rails" magazine, page 84. They write that "by September, the Penn Central had decided to preserve the integrity of the collection by sending all of it to the Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania. In October 1969, a second 'train of locomotives' left for Strasburg, arriving October 10. This train consisted of the L1s, K4s, E6s, E2 (7002), B6sb, A5s, H3 (1187), the 'John Bull' replica, coach No. 1651, and wooden baggage car No. 6076."
