Here is a 13-page article by Mr. William Moedinger, Jr., entitled "East Broad Top." It was published originally in the August 1941 issue of "Trains" magazine, pages 4-16. "The men who founded East Broad Top and those who later carried on their work seemed to have but one purpose in mind, that of transporting coal from the coal fields to the canal in earlier days and to the railroad later on." (Page 8)

Here is page four of a 13-page article by Mr. William Moedinger, Jr., entitled "East Broad Top." It was published originally in the August 1941 issue of "Trains" magazine, page 7. Partial Caption: "The mountain ridges in Pennsylvania run roughly northeast and southwest. The Pennsylvania Railroad's main line must cut across these folds of earth and coal, but branches and short lines follow the northeast-southwest valleys with occassional windings and switchbacks up to the crests. See how the East Broad Top hairpins over two ridges to reach the rich coal deposits near its south end."

Here is page five of a 13-page article by Mr. William Moedinger, Jr., entitled "East Broad Top." It was published originally in the August 1941 issue of "Trains" magazine, page 8. Top Right-Hand Photo, Partial Caption: "Nos. 16, 17, and 18 are the road's three heaviest Mikados." Engine #17 was built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works during March of 1918. Bottom Photo Captions: "Robertsdale station agent R.D. Potts is one of the youngest employees. He waits here with mail for [Train] No. 3. Gas-electric car M-1 substitutes for the mixed trains when mines are closed, and can pull trailer or box cars."

Here is page six of a 13-page article by Mr. William Moedinger, Jr., entitled "East Broad Top." It was published originally in the August 1941 issue of "Trains" magazine, page 9. Top Right-Hand Photo, Partial Caption: "Mikado No. 15 is one of two similar engines, the other being No. 14. Like all EBT motive power, she is Baldwin-built." Engine #15 was built during February of 1914. Bottom Photos, Partial Caption: "Rocky Ridge is reached only by East Broad Top rails. Railfan excursion train is shown standing at the station.... Fan trip special does an act: After allowing the fans to get off, the train backed into Tunnel No. 2 (1150 feet long) and emerged to the accompaniment of clicking cameras."

Left Column, Second Photo Caption: "General office building is at Rock Hill Furnace. First floor houses station for adjacent Orbisonia." Right Column, Bottom Photo Caption: "No. 12 is the smallest of the East Broad Top's six Mikados, and the only one of its class." Engine #12 was built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works during December of 1911 and in later years was christened "Millie."

Photo Captions: "A standard gauge Pennsylvania Railroad hopper car, fitted with East Broad Top's narrow gauge trucks, stands on the three-rail track at Mount Union, top. LCL is transferred to EBT motor truck, center. Two standard gauge steam switchers handle yard work on three-rail track, bottom." The pedigree of EBT 0-6-0 engine #3 is not recorded.

Here is page 12 of a 13-page article by Mr. William Moedinger, Jr., entitled "East Broad Top." It was published originally in the August 1941 issue of "Trains" magazine, page 15. Photo Captions: "East Broad Top trains do most of their fastest running along the four miles between Shirleysburg and Orbisonia, top. The train in the bottom photo is really mixed. The box car is standard gauge New York Central and is, curiously enough, the only equipment which looks wrong size. Scene near Mount Union." The road numbers of the locomotives pictured here are not recorded.
