NST. Here is a duplicate 35mm color slide of a photo by Fred Kern that was taken just West of Altoona, Pennsylvania, on 2 July 1955. Shown here (R to L) are Pennsylvania Railroad engine #5764 and an E-8 Class "A" unit whose road number is not recorded. Both were built by GM-EMD and rated at 2,250 horsepower each. #5764 was built in November of 1952. They are pulling a mail and express train down the Allegheny Mountains via the Horseshoe Curve, and are about to pass under the 24th Street Bridge on their way to Altoona and points East.

PRR 5834, BH-50, 1955
Description:
NST. Here is a duplicate 35mm color slide of a photo by Fred Kern that was taken just West of Altoona, Pennsylvania, on 2 July 1955. Shown here are two eastbound Pennsylvania Railroad trains about to pass under the 24th Street Bridge on their way into Altoona. On the right (R to L) are PRR engines #5834 and another "Centipede" whose road number is not recorded. Both are BH-50's built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works and rated at 2,500 horsepower each. #5834 was built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works in February of 1948 and retired in April of 1962. On the left (R to L) are PRR engines #5764 and an E-8 Class "A" unit whose road number is not recorded. Both were built by GM-EMD and rated at 2,250 horsepower each. #5764 is an EP-22 built in November of 1952. From the R.R. Wallin Collection.

Here is a duplicate 35mm color slide of a photo by Fred R. Kern that was taken near Newport, Pennsylvania, on 24 July 1955. Shown here (R to L) is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #5764 and another unit whose road number is not recorded. Both are EP-22's built by GM-EMD and rated at 2,250 horsepower each. #5764 was constructed in November of 1952. They've just passed VIEW Tower with a passenger train bound for Harrisburg and points East. Note the string of empty 50-ton hopper cars belonging to the Berwind-White Coal Mining Company heading back to the bituminous coal mines of Western Pennsylvania. ("Tchowee"; #19 of 27)

PRR 5764, EP-22, 1965
Description:
Sunday. Here is an original photo that I took of a Pennsylvania Railroad train in Altoona, Pennsylvania, on 02 May 1965. Shown here (L to R) are PRR engines #5764, #5704, and #5894. All are EP-22's built by EMD and rated at 2,250 horsepower each. #5764 and #5704 were built in 1952, but #5894 was built in 1951. They are passing ALTO Tower with an 18-car eastbound passenger train and will soon stop at the Altoona Passenger Station.
