Description:
Here is a postal card entitled "The National Limited." No Postmark. Caption On Reverse: "Amtrak E8A 447 and E9B 457 drift downgrade around Horseshoe Curve, west of Altoona, Pa., with train No. 30, the eastbound 'National Limited,' May 21, 1977. Photo Carl H. Sturner Collection." AMTK #447 is an E8A built by GM-EMD as Pennsylvania Railroad number "5790" in May of 1952 and rated at 2,250 horsepower. I'll bet dollars to doughnuts that it's rounded the Curve more than a few times in its career!
