Here is a steam locomotive portrait of Pennsylvania Railroad engine #6723, an M-1A (4-8-2) "Mountain" built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works during June of 1930 and retired in December of 1955 after 25 years of faithful service. Note the Fireman on the tender's deck, refilling the reservoir. "Fill 'er up, Mack!" The photographer's name, the exact date, and the location are not recorded. (#52 of 72)

Mann. Here is the first of four successive duplicate 35mm color slides of photos taken by John M. Prophet III on 16 October 1953. Prominent here is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #6723, an M-1A (4-8-2) "Mountain" built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works during June of 1930 and retired in December of 1955 after 25 years of faithful service. Here, it's pulling a train of empty hopper cars across the Susquehanna River via the Rockville Bridge near Marysville. (Gift from Brad Mann.)

Mann. Here is the second of four successive duplicate 35mm color slides of photos taken by John M. Prophet III on 16 October 1953. Prominent here is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #6723, an M-1A (4-8-2) "Mountain" built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works during June of 1930 and retired in December of 1955 after 25 years of faithful service. In this context, it's pulling a train of empty hopper cars along the left-to-right flowing Susquehanna River near BANKS Tower and Perdix. The train will parallel the Susquehanna and Juniata Rivers on a water-level route all the way to Altoona and the Allegheny Mountains. (Gift from Brad Mann.)
