Waters. Here is an original telephoto view that I took in Altoona, Pennsylvania, in mid-February of 1966. Shown here (L to R) are Pennsylvania Railroad engines #8674, an unidentified unit, and #8663. All are AS-18AM's built by the American Locomotive Company and rated at 1,800 horsepower each. #8674 was built in March of 1958, while #8663 was built in January of 1958. In this context, they're pulling a mixed-cargo freight train past SLOPE Tower, under the 24th Street Bridge, and up the Allegheny Mountains to Gallitzin and points West. Photo taken from the steps of SLOPE Tower. |
