Shown here is Norfolk & Western Railroad engine #601, a Class J-1 (4-8-4) built in Roanoke during 1943. It's the only steam locomotive among the 39 different railroads and streamliners pictured herein!

Shown here are four photos of the Baltimore & Ohio Railroad's engine #5600, the Class N-1 (4-4-4-4) "Duplex" built in the B&O's Mt. Clare Shops in Baltimore, Maryland, during May of 1937 and retired in October of 1950 after just 13 years of experimental service.
