Caption On Reverse: "Amtrak E8A 447 and E9B 457 drift downgrade around Horseshoe Curve, west of Altoona, Pa., with train No. 30, the eastbound 'National Limited,' May 21, 1977. Photo Carl H. Sturner Collection." AMTK #447 is an E8A built by GM-EMD as Pennsylvania Railroad number "5790" in May of 1952 and rated at 2,250 horsepower. I'll bet dollars to doughnuts that it's rounded the Curve more than a few times in its career!

Description:  Elmira. Here is first of two successive duplicate 35mm color slides of photos by David Connor that were taken near Snedekerville, Pennsylvania, c. 1955. At the left is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #4651, an I-1SA (2-10-0) "Decapod" built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works as an I-1S during October of 1923, rebuilt in Juniata as an I-1SA in December of 1938, and retired in September of 1956. At the right is Erie Railroad engine #832, an E8A built by GM-EMD in March of 1951 and rated at 2,250 horsepower. Description:  Here is a postal card entitled "Next Stop, Merger City." No Postmark. The photographer is not identified. Caption On Reverse: "Pennsylvania RR EMD E7 #4244 and E8 #4295 whisk a passenger train near Chicago in August, 1966. Recently re-painted tuscan red, both units wear Penn-Central style numbers on sides, anticipating the approaching PC merger." Both locomotives were built by GM-EMD. #4244 is an EP-20 constructed in August of 1947 as number "5844" and rated at 2,000 horsepower, while #4295 is an EP-22 built in March of 1951 as number "5895" and rated at 2,250 horsepower.

Note how rusty these once-highly-polished rails have become!
