Title:
PRR 6825, M-1, 1958
Description:
Volkmer. Here is an original 35mm color slide by William D. Volkmer that was taken in Altoona, Pennsylvania, on 16 June 1958. Prominent here (L to R) is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #6825 and two more locomotives whose road numbers are not recorded. #6825 is an M-1 (4-8-2) "Mountain" built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works in September of 1926 and retired in June of 1959 after 33 years of service. In this context, they've been placed in temporary storage pending a recall to active duty.
