Description:
Here is a photo by Arthur B. Johnson that was taken in East St. Louis, Illinois, on 9 September 1937. Prominent here is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #5487, a K-4S (4-6-2) "Pacific" built in Juniata during November of 1927 and retired in October of 1956. Partially visible at the far right is PRR engine #6777, an M-1A (4-8-2) "Mountain" built by the Lima Locomotive Works in March of 1930 and retired in January of 1957. Gary Mittner Collection.

Here is page two of a five-page article by C.E. Starr entitled "Conemaugh Crossroads." It was published originally in the May 1947 issue of "Trains" magazine, page 28. Top Right Photo Caption: "Engine 6777 noses off the Allegheny bridge toward the junction." Partially visible here is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #6777, an M-1A (4-8-2) "Mountain" built by the Lima Locomotive Works during March of 1930 and retired in January of 1957 after 27 years of faithful service.

Here is page four of a five-page article by C.E. Starr entitled "Conemaugh Crossroads." It was published originally in the May 1947 issue of "Trains" magazine, page 30. Top Photo Caption: "Bound for Altoona with an extra freight, engine 6777 crosses the Allegheny River bridge which links Freeport with Kiskiminetas Junction." Pennsylvania Railroad engine #6777 is an M-1A (4-8-2) "Mountain" built by the Lima Locomotive Works in March of 1930 and retired in January of 1957. Bottom Photo Caption: "A head-end brakeman enters his tender cupola as engine 4265 begins to pull westward from Kiski." PRR engine #4265 is an I-1SA (2-10-0) "Decapod" built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works in July of 1923, rebuilt in Juniata as an I-1SA in September of 1942, and retired in September of 1956.
