Here are 26 original photos that I took during a trip on Pennsylvania Railroad passenger trains from New York City to Altoona on 15 August 1965. Most of them were taken from the "dutch doors" of a moving passenger train. These 35mm color slides are arranged in the order that I took them.

NYP-ALT-65. Here is an original photo that I took while riding a Pennsylvania Railroad passenger train across the Hackensack River Bridge near Bergen, New Jersey, on 15 August 1965. Shown here pulling an oncoming passenger train is PRR engine #4877, a GG-1 (2-C-C-2) electric built in Juniata during January of 1939, rated at 4,620 horsepower, and presently on display at the United Railway Historical Society in Boonton, New Jersey. Both trains are zipping along at 60 miles per hour!

NYP-ALT-65. Here is an original photo that I took while riding a Pennsylvania Railroad passenger train in Paoli, Pennsylvania, on 15 August 1965. Prominent here is PRR engine #4433 and another unit whose road number is not recorded. Both are E-44 (C-C) electrics built by General Electric and rated at 4,400 horsepower each. #4433 was built in March of 1962. In this context, they're pulling an eastbound mixed-cargo freight train through the Paoli Passenger Station.

Description:
NYP-ALT-65. Here is an original photo that I took while riding a Pennsylvania Railroad passenger train departing the Passenger Station in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, on 15 August 1965. The GG-1 electric locomotive has since been exchanged for three diesels. Shown here are the Electric Locomotive Ready Tracks, just West of the Station. Of the three locomotives visible here, just one is identifiable. It's PRR engine #4887, a GG-1 (2-C-C-2) electric built in Juniata during April of 1939 and rated at 4,620 horsepower. Also visible is PRR #999400, a former steam locomotive tender that's been transformed into an oil tank car to replenish the GG-1's.

NYP-ALT-65. Here is an original photo that I took while riding a Pennsylvania Railroad passenger train about to pass over the Susquehanna River at Rockville, Pennsylvania, on 15 August 1965. The ten-car train is now powered by three diesel-electric locomotives produced by GM-EMD. In the lead is PRR engine #5870, an EP-20 built in April of 1949 and rated at 2,000 horsepower. The lot at the left is a Pennsylvania State Truck Weigh Station situated on US Route 22.

NYP-ALT-65. Here is an original photo that I took after riding a Pennsylvania Railroad passenger train that's stopped in Altoona, Pennsylvania, on 15 August 1965. Shown here (R to L) is PRR engine #5870 and two more units whose road numbers are not recorded. All were built by GM-EMD. #5870 was built in April of 1949 and rated at 2,000 horsepower. The purpose of the stop is to change both engine and train crews, as well as to discharge and board passengers.
