LIRR "Present-Day Roster," Page 25, 1963
Title:  LIRR "Present-Day Roster," Page 25, 1963
Description:  Here is page one of a three-page article by Sy Reich entitled "Long Island Rail Road: Present-Day Roster." It was published originally in the April 1963 issue of "Railroad" magazine, page 25. Photo Caption: "Sixteen-hundred Alco horses pant briefly at LIRR's Cold Spring Harbor station before climbing the grade to Huntingdon." Photo by Gene Collora. Prominent here is LIRR engine #1552, an AGP-16MSC built by the American Locomotive Company in September of 1955 and rated at 1,600 horsepower. (NOTE: There's a typographical error in the "Diesel Locomotives" table: the Railroad Class for the 1600 HP Alco RS-3 should be "AGP-16msc," not "AGP-15msc.")

Description:  Here is a duplicate 35mm color slide of Pennsylvania Railroad engine #9473, an FP-20 built by Fairbanks-Morse in June of 1948, rated at 2,000 horsepower, and retired in September of 1962 after just 14 years of revenue service. In this context, it's undergoing compatibility tests on the Long Island Rail Road. By and by, the LIRR purchased eight CPA-20's from Fairbanks-Morse in 1950.
