Here is a photo taken by Mr. D. Sargent Bell. It was published originally in the January 1941 issue of "Railroad" magazine, page 71. Partial Caption: "D. Sargent Bell ~ who has probably taken more steam and electric train photos than any other man in the United States ~ used this special while he was in the employ of the Pennsylvania Railroad back in the 'Nineties.'" Shown here is PRR engine #435, a D-11A (4-4-0) "American" built in the Altoona Machine Shops during June of 1885 and retired in May of 1913 after 28 years of faithful service.

Description:
Here are two photos taken by unidentified photographers that were published originally in the February 1941 issue of "Railroad" magazine, page 20. Partial Caption: "The Pennsylvania's first experiments with smoke-lifters did not enhance the appearance of its K5 engine Number 5698, but they did pave the way for the stack treatments of the 3768." Pictured in the lower photo is #5698, a K-5 (4-6-2) "Pacific" built in Juniata during 1929 and retired in October of 1952. Shown in the upper photo is #3768, a K-4S (4-6-2) "Pacific" built in Juniata during June of 1920, streamlined in 1936, and retired in October of 1953.

Here is a photo taken by an unidentified photographer that was published originally in the April 1941 issue of "Railroad" magazine, page 47. Partial Caption: "Pennsylvania K-4 Number 5458 cants to a curve at Shrewsbury Station, Pa., while a clerk in the mail car behind gets ready for a pickup from a trackside crane." #5458 is a K-4S (4-6-2) "Pacific" built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works during March of 1927 and retired in June of 1948 after just 21 years of revenue service. (The essence of railroading.)

Amended Photo Caption: "The [Long Island Rail Road] 'Fishermen's Special' carries week-day and Sunday excursionists to Montauk, Long Island. Those who don't care for fishing visit the famous lighthouse at Montauk Point, bathe in the surf, or frolic on the sandy beach." The photographer's name and the exact date are not recorded. Photo Caption: "Pennsy 2-10-0 pusher engines 4545 and 1284 on Horseshoe Curve in March, 1947." Shown here (R to L) are Pennsylvania Railroad engines #4545 and #1284. Both are I-1SA (2-10-0) "Decapods." #4545 was built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works as an I-1S during August of 1923, rebuilt in Juniata as an I-1SA in February of 1943, and retired in February of 1952. #1284 was built in Juniata as an I-1S in February of 1919, rebuilt as an I-1SA in March of 1941, and retired in February of 1952. Note the Rear-End Brakeman catchin' the breeze on the N-5 cabin car! (#1,800)

Partial Caption: "Brightest hope of U.S. passenger service ~ new swift trains to operate on Pennsy rails over Northeast Corridor route in Department of Transportation program ~ is not yet realizable, due to technical difficulties. Here is a photo taken by Mr. Jack Emerick. It was published originally in the March 1969 issue of "Railroad" magazine, page 22. Photo Caption: "Pennsylvania's class FF-2 electric freight locos, bought from Great Northern, were in service less than a decade. No. 7 at Thorndale, Pa., February 6, 1960." PRR engine #7 is an FF-2 (1-C-C-1) built by the American Locomotive Company for the Great Northern Railroad as number "5017" in March of 1930, acquired by the PRR and renumbered "7" in August of 1956, and retired in April of 1965 after 35 years of dual-road service. Note that both pantographs are raised.

Here is a painting by Mr. Donald E. Antes, Jr. It's the cover illustration on the April 1976 issue of "Railroad" magazine. Cover Caption: "Our classic cover painting of a Pennsy train on Horseshoe Curve near Altoona, Pa., was done by Donald E. Antes, Jr., president of Hall of Steam, 1407 N. Atherton St., State College, Pa." Depicted here is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #1361, a K-4S (4-6-2) "Pacific" built in Juniata during May of 1918, retired in September of 1956, enshrined at the Horseshoe Curve on 08 June 1957, restored for excursion service during 1987-1988, then withdrawn from service and disassembled due to safety concerns, and still not reassembled to wholeness. [N.B.: Mr. Antes's work reminds me of a similar "Horseshoe Curve" scene painted by Mr. Grif Teller in 1935.]
