Here is page five of a nine-page cover article by Bert Pennypacker entitled "The Mass-Production Ten-Wheeler." It was published originally in the October 1973 issue of "Trains" magazine, page 24. Bottom Photo Caption: "In the early 1940's, G-5s's migrated west to handle Chicago-Valparaiso (Ind.) commuter trains. Engine 1648 pulls south from Chicago's 21st Street interlocking with 'Valpo' local 454 circa 1949." Photo by Milton B. Nafus. Shown here is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #1648, a G-5S (4-6-0) "Ten-Wheeler" built in Juniata during August of 1923 and retired in October of 1949 after 26 years of faithful service.
