Volkmer. Here is an image of a photo by William D. Volkmer that was taken in Altoona, Pennsylvania, on 18 May 1959. Shown here (L to R) is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #9640 and two more units whose road numbers are not recorded. All were built by GM-EMD and rated at 1,500 horsepower each. #9840 is an EF-15A constructed in March of 1950. In this context, this A-B-A set is passing SLOPE Tower with train of empty hoppers on its way up the Allegheny Mountain to Gallitzin and the coal mines of Western Pennsylvania.
