NST. Here is a duplicate 35mm color slide of a photo by Homer G. Benton that was taken just West of Altoona, Pennsylvania, in August of 1957. Shown here (R to L) are Pennsylvania Railroad engine #9640 and two more "EF" Class units whose road numbers are not recorded. All were built by GM-EMD and rated at 1,500 horsepower each. #9640 is an EF-15A built in March of 1950. They've just passed the Brick Plant with a fully-loaded mineral train, and are about to pass SLOPE Tower on their way to the Eastbound Receiving Yards in Altoona. |
