Photo Caption: "Gig Tops. After a disastrous passenger train wreck on the Camden & Amboy, gig tops were applied to the tenders, giving the head brakeman a shelter from which to survey the cars behind. He also had a long brake lever at his side which pinched down tender-wheel shoes. This is Danforth Cooke-built Number 7 as she looked in the early '60s." |
