Shown here is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #8111, a BS-16M built by Baldwin-Lima-Hamilton in February of 1954 and rated at 1,600 horsepower. Partially visible on the right is PRR N-5 cabin car #477071. The exact date and the location are not recorded.

Shown here is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #8851, an AS-16MS built by the American Locomotive Company in January of 1952 and rated at 1,600 horsepower. On the Ward Trucking Company siding are several "wagon-top" boxcars recently reconditioned at the PRR's Samuel Rea Shop in Hollidaysburg. Photo taken from the 4th Street Footbridge.

Description:  NST. Here is a duplicate 35mm color slide of a photo by Fred Kern that was taken in Altoona, Pennsylvania, on 30 August 1953. Shown here is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #6421, a J-1A (2-10-4) "Texas" built in Juniata during July of 1943 and retired in April of 1958. It is pulling a mixed-cargo freight train under the 24th Street Bridge on its way up the Allegheny Mountains via the Horseshoe Curve to Gallitzin and points West. The signal bridge supports the home signals for SLOPE Tower, which is barely visible just beyond the Bridge. Produced and distributed by Audio-Visual Designs. (SFM)
