Oil Power. Here is a duplicate 35mm color slide taken in Englewood, Illinois, c. 1949. Shown here (L to R) are Pennsylvania Railroad engine #9477 and another unit whose number is not recorded. Both are FP-20's built by Fairbanks-Morse and rated at 2,000 horsepower each. #9477 was built in July of 1948, later regeared an classified as an FF-20 freight locomotive, and retired in December of 1963 after just 15 years of revenue service. In this context, they are pulling an eastbound passenger train and have stopped at the Englewood Station to pick-up more riders. The photographer's name and the exact date are not recorded. |

All are EFS-17M's built by GM-EMD and rated at 1,750 horsepower each. #7197 was built in November of 1957, #7035 was constructed in December of 1955, while #7136 was produced in June of 1957. The number of the N-5 cabin car is not recorded. |

Here is a postal card entitled "Evolution of Transportation." No Postmark. Revised Caption On Reverse: "From Tide Water to the [Ohio] Valley was the course of the trader, warrior, and eventually commerce. The unusual views shown on this card indicate the evolution of the methods of transportation that have been used during three centuries. Copyright 1908 by Geo. V. Miller & Co." In addition to the depictions of a Conestoga Wagon and a Canal Boat is one labelled "Pennsylvania Special ~ 20th Century." The location is an approximation. |
