AHC. Here is a duplicate 35mm color slide that was taken at the Horseshoe Curve near Altoona, Pennsylvania, c. 1964. Shown here (L to R) is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #9454 and two other units whose road numbers are not recorded. #9654 is an FF-16 built by Fairbanks-Morse during September of 1950, rated at 1,600 horsepower, and retired in April of 1965 after just 15 years of revenue service. They are pulling a mixed-cargo freight train around the Curve and up the Allegheny Mountains to Gallitzin and points West. The photographer's name and the exact date are not recorded. Shown here (L to R) is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #9654, as well as an "EF" Class B-unit and a Fairbanks-Morse "C-Liner" A-unit whose road numbers are not recorded. #9654 is an EH-15 built by GM-EMD in February of 1950, rated at 1,500 horsepower, later regeared and reclassified as an EF-15A. |
