Description:  NST. Here is a duplicate 35mm color slide of a photo by Fred Kern that was taken just West of Altoona, Pennsylvania, on 2 July 1955. Shown here are two eastbound Pennsylvania Railroad trains about to pass under the 24th Street Bridge on their way into Altoona. On the right (R to L) are PRR engines #5834 and another "Centipede" whose road number is not recorded. Both are BH-50's built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works and rated at 2,500 horsepower each. #5834 was built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works in February of 1948 and retired in April of 1962. On the left (R to L) are PRR engines #5764 and an E-8 Class "A" unit whose road number is not recorded. Both were built by GM-EMD and rated at 2,250 horsepower each. #5764 is an EP-22 built in November of 1952. From the R.R. Wallin Collection.

Description:  Here is an original 35mm color slide by M.E. Brouse that was taken just East of the 24th Street Bridge in Altoona, Pennsylvania, on 1 November 1987. Shown here (R to L) are former Pennsylvania Railroad engines #5898 and #5706. Both are E-8A's built by GM-EMD and rated at 2,250 horsepower each; #5898 was built in March of 1951, while #5706 was built in October of 1952. At the time this photo was taken, they were owned by the Blue Mountain & Reading Railroad and are seen pulling the 17-car "Horseshoe Curve Excursion" down the Allegheny Mountains and will soon stop at the Altoona Passenger Station before returning to Hamburg.

Shown here is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #6808, an M-1 (4-8-2) "Mountain" built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works during August of 1926 and retired in September of 1952 after 26 years of faithful service.

Description:  Chione. Here is a duplicate 35mm color slide via Al Chione that was taken in North Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, in January of 1961. The photographer is not identified. Shown here (L to R) are Pennsylvania Railroad engines #9627 and two more "AF" Class units whose numbers are not recorded. #9627 is an AF-16 built by the American Locomotive Company in December of 1951, rated at 1,600 horsepower, and retired in January of 1967. They are rockin' through the North Philadelphia Station with exactly one gondola and one cabin car on a frigid Winter's day.

Description:  ARB. Here is a duplicate 35mm color slide of a photo by David R. Sweetland that was taken in Altoona, Pennsylvania, in September of 1959. In the foreground is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #7606, an ES-17M built by GM-EMD in 1957 and rated at 1,700 horsepower. Pushing N-8 cabin car #478118 to connect with a westbound freight train are PRR engines #8672 and two more RSD-12's whose numbers are not recorded. All are AS-18M's built by the American Locomotive Company and rated at 1,800 horsepower each. #8672 was built in March of 1958. Photo taken from Juniata's 8th Street Bridge.

Shown here is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #3401, an H-9S (2-8-0) "Consolidated" built in Juniata as an H-8SB during June of 1912, rebuilt as an H-9S in October of 1924, and retired by 1956 after 44 years of faithful service. Note the giant Shamokin slag piles in the background!
