Photo Caption: "Two K4s and a T1 take the 'Metropolitan' up to Gallitzin Summit near the Horseshoe Curve. April, 1948." In the lead is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #612, a K-4SA (4-6-2) "Pacific" built in Juniata as a K-4S during April of 1917, later equipped with a front-end throttle and reclassified as a K-4SA, and retired in April of 1958 after 41 years of faithful service. Photo Caption: "Forty-two car freight overtaking long freight on outer track. The New Haven 2-6-0 is headed for the Johnstown Mills. Oct. 24, 1949." Placed just three cars ahead of a pair of Pennsylvania Railroad Class "I" (2-10-0) "Decapod" tail-end pushers is New Haven Railroad engine #251, a 2-6-0 "Mogul" on its way to be scrapped.
