Description:  Excursion. Here is an original photo that I took at the Passenger Station in Altoona, Pennsylvania, around four-thirty on 17 October 1965. Shown here (L to R) is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #5898 and three more units whose road numbers are not recorded. All are EP-22's built by GM-EMD and rated at 2,250 horsepower each. #5898 was constructed in March of 1951. They've paused at the Station with the "Horseshoe Curve Excursion" ~ sponsored by the Lancaster Chapter of the National Railway Historical Society ~ for a crew change before returning to Lancaster. Partially visible in the background are some of the PRR's 12th Street Car Shops; a small portion of the cast-iron 12th Street Footbridge is visible at the right. (#9 of 10)

Description:  Excursion. Here is an original photo that I took at the Passenger Station in Altoona, Pennsylvania, around four-thirty on 17 October 1965. Shown here (L to R) is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #5898 and three more units whose road numbers are not recorded. All are EP-22's built by GM-EMD and rated at 2,250 horsepower each. #5898 was constructed in March of 1951. They're just departing the Station with the "Horseshoe Curve Excursion" ~ sponsored by the Lancaster Chapter of the National Railway Historical Society ~ after a crew change and are now returning to Lancaster after a very full day of railfanning. As of 4 July 2016, or 51 years later, engine #5898 ~ aged 65 ~ is still in active excursion service with the St. Louis, Iron Mountain, & Southern Railway at Jackson, Missouri! (#10 of 10)

In this context, they're pulling the "Horseshoe Curve Excursion" ~ sponsored by the Lancaster Chapter of the National Railway Historical Society ~ through the PRR's Reclamation Plant before stopping at the Samuel Rea Shop for the guided tours. All were built by GM-EMD. #5898 is an EP-22 built in 1951 and rated at 2,250 horsepower. Middle Photo: Shown here are PRR engines #8610 and another unit whose number is not recorded. Both were built by the American Locomotive Company. #8610 is an APS-24MS built in 1956 and rated at 2,400 horsepower. These units are actually the rear-end "pushers" for the mail-express train pictured in the bottom photo.

Description:  Bellwood. Here is an original photo that I took of a Pennsylvania Railroad train at Pinecroft ~ just west of Bellwood, Pennsylvania ~ on 26 June 1965. All were built by EMD. #5902 is an EP-22 built in 1951 and rated at 2,250 horsepower. #5857 and #5859 are EP-20's built in 1948 and rated at 2,000 horsepower each. They're about to pass under the 12th Street Footbridge with a westbound passenger train and will soon stop to change crews, as well as to discharge and board passengers. The gray-colored building pictured in the center is the Railway Express Office; the two-story red-brick building to its left is the PRR's Freight Station. The silver-colored structure in the distance is the 7th Street Bridge; to its right is the 9th Street Footbridge.
