PRR "Broadway Limited," Pages 12-13, 1927 |
Description: |
Here are pages 12 and 13 of a 47-page booklet by Katherine Woods entitled "The Broadway Limited: 1902-1927." It was issued originally by the Pennsylvania Railroad in 1927. Herein begins the section called "Behind the Scenes." As for the photo, this would seem to be the engineman's window in the cab of a DD-1 electric locomotive. Permanently-coupled pairs of DD-1's pulled the freshly-replenished "Broadway" out of Sunnyside Yard, through the East River Tunnels, waited for the passengers to load at New York City's Pennsylvania Station, pulled the "Limited" through the West River Tunnels, and finally uncoupled at Manhattan Transfer ~ i.e., present-day Harrison, New Jersey, just East of Newark. Steam locomotives would then pull the "Broadway Limited" the balance of the way to Chicago. |
