Wood. Here is an image of a photo by Don Wood that was taken near Bay Head Junction, New Jersey, c. 1956. Wood's Caption: "Bay Head Jct. afforded many opportunities for shooting the unusual. Case in point: K-4's 5439 and 3750 flank passenger 'Shark' 5783." #5439 is a K-4S (4-6-2) "Pacific" built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works during March of 1927 and retired in April of 1958. #3750 is a K-4S (4-6-2) "Pacific" constructed in Juniata as number "3750" in March of 1920, renumbered "1737" in 1956, and presently on display as number "3750" at the Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania in Strasburg. And #5783 is a BP-20 built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works in November of 1948, rated at 2,000 horsepower, and retired in November of 1964. William E. Burket Collection.

Here is the front cover of a five-page camera study entitled "Pennsy Steam Engines Will Be Sent To Museums." It was published originally on the July 1968 issue of "Railroad" magazine. Cover Caption:"Front cover this month, recalling bright memories of Pennsy steam, was made jointly by Michael A. Eagleson & Howard W. Serig." Shown here (L to R) are Pennsylvania Railroad engines #6755 and #1737 (aka #3750). Both were built in Juniata and both are presently on display at the Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania in Strasburg. Engine #6755 is an M-1B (4-8-2) "Mountain" built as an M-1A during June of 1930 and rebuilt as an M-1B in April of 1944. Here is page three of a five-page camera study entitled "Pennsy Steam Engines Will Be Sent To Museums." It was published originally in the July 1968 issue of "Railroad" magazine, page 17. Top Photo Caption: "Mikado type 520, class L-1s, was stored outdoors for a while, as this photo taken by W. Neil some time ago shows." Engine #520 is an L-1S (2-8-2) "Mikado" built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works during December of 1916 and retired in August of 1957. Bottom Photo Caption: "Much-modified front of No. 3750, which masquerades as 1737, the original K-4." Engine #1737 is a K-4S (4-6-2) "Pacific" built in Juniata as number "3750" during March of 1920, renumbered "1737" in 1956, and renumbered "3750" in 1973. Both of these locomotives are presently on display at the Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania.

Here is page five of a five-page camera study entitled "Pennsy Steam Engines Will Be Sent To Museums." It was published originally in the July 1968 issue of "Railroad" magazine, page 19. Top Left-Hand Photo, Partial Caption: "Atlantic type 460, class E-6s, drew the 'Lindbergh Special' on June 11, 1927, from Washington to Manhattan Transfer in just under 3 hours." Engine #460 is an E-6S (4-4-2) "Atlantic" built in Juniata in August of 1914. Top Right-Hand Photo, Partial Caption: "K-4s No. 3750 wears identification of No. 1737, first loco of this famous 4-6-2 class. The original 1737 had been sent to Northumberland, but deteriorated so badly that she was scrapped." Engine #1737 is a K-4S (4-6-2) "Pacific" built as number "3750" in March of 1920, renumbered "1737" in 1956, and renumbered "3750" in 1973. Here is page six of a six-page article by William D. Volkmer entitled "The Pennsy At Northumberland: 1964-1968." It was published originally in the January 2004 issue of "Trains" magazine, page 71. Photo Caption: "A March 1965 afternoon finds Baldwin "Sharknose" RF16 9595 and K4s Pacific 3750 outside the Northumberland roundhouse. The K4 carries the identity of sister 1737, the prototype K4 which was scrapped in the 1950s. Returned to her true number, 3750 is today at the Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania." Engine #3750 was built in Juniata during March of 1920 and was in active service at least until August of 1957.
