PRR 5469, K-4S, c. 1938
Title:  PRR 5469, K-4S, c. 1938
Description:  AW. Here is an image of a photo by Arlington J. Wolfe that was taken at the 24th Street Turntable in Altoona, Pennsylvania, c. 1938. Shown here is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #5469, a K-4S (4-6-2) "Pacific" built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works during March of 1927 and retired in May of 1956 after 29 years of faithful service. It's just returned from a passenger helper run up the Allegheny Mountains to Gallitzin where it uncoupled and returned here, to be turned around, for yet another run up "The Mountain." Visible beyond it are several other locomotives that are also poised for helper/pusher runs. Beyond them are the 17th Street Bridge and several of the PRR's 12th Street Car Shops. Brush Mountain dominates the distance. William E. Burket Collection.
