Title:
"Modern Power For Today's Trains," Page 11, 1949
Description:
Here is page 11 of a 22-page booklet published by the Pennsylvania Railroad entitled "Modern Power For Today's Trains." It was issued originally during July of 1949. Partial Caption: "The turbine, seen between the second and third driving wheels, drives the locomotive through gearing, in place of the cylinders, pistons, and driving rods of conventional engines." Shown here is PRR engine #6200, the S-2 (6-8-6) "Steam Turbine" built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works during September of 1944 and retired in January of 1952 after just eight years of experimental service.
