PRR 4920, GG-1, 1964
Description:
WIL-ALT-64. Here is an original photo that I took during a trip on Pennsylvania Railroad passenger trains from Wilmington to Altoona on 3 July 1964. Shown here is PRR engine #4920, a GG-1 (2-C-C-2) electric built in Juniata during July of 1942 and rated at 4,620 horsepower. It's just finished pulling a 16-car passenger train from New York and Philadelphia into the Harrisburg Passenger Station, and is about to be uncoupled and readied for further assignment. Three diesels (headed by PRR engine #5838) and four headend cars will soon be coupled on, and then the now-20-car passenger train will depart Harrisburg for Altoona and points West.
