PRR 5409, K-4S, c. 1930
Title:  PRR 5409, K-4S, c. 1930
Description:  Portraits 10. Here is a steam locomotive portrait of Pennsylvania Railroad engine #5409, a K-4S (4-6-2) "Pacific" built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works during February of 1927 and retired in February of 1955 after 28 years of faithful service. The simultaneous presence of both catenary and third-rail power delivery systems suggest that this photo was taken at Manhattan Transfer near Harrison, New Jersey. The photographer's name and the exact date are not recorded. Many thanks to Mr. Robert Hess for identifying both the locomotive and the location correctly. (#35 of 72)
