PRR 4780-4781, DD-1, 1968
Title:  PRR 4780-4781, DD-1, 1968
Description:  Byerly. Here is a duplicate 35mm color slide of a photo by Ken L. Douglas that was taken at Sunnyside Yard in Long Island City, N.Y., in early 1968. Photo Caption: "Pennsylvania No. 4780, Class DD-1, Long Island City, N.Y., 1968." Shown here (L to R) are PRR engines #4780 and #4781. Both are DD-1 (2-B+B-2) electrics built in Juniata during May of 1911, originally numbered "3936" and "3937" respectively, and rated at 4,000 horsepower total. This permanently-coupled pair was later renumbered "4780" and "4781" in preparation for the PRR-NYC merger, and are presently on display at the Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania. This photo comes from a color slide set entitled "Electric Railroading ~ Penn Central and Pennsylvania Lines" that's produced and distributed by Blackhawk Films of Davenport, Iowa (868-4).

PRR 4781-4780, DD-1, 1973
Title:  PRR 4781-4780, DD-1, 1973
Description:  RRMP. Here is an original photo that I took at the Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania in Strasburg, Pennsylvania, on 30 June 1973. Shown here (L to R) are Pennsylvania Railroad engines #4781 and #4780. They are permanently-linked DD-1's built in Juniata during May of 1911 and rated at 3,160 horsepower. #4781's original number was "3937," while #4780's was "3936." According to the RRMP, "The Museum is home to DD-1's Nos. 3937 and 3936, built in 1911. These two locomotives formed a married pair and operated in the tunnels beneath the Hudson River between New Jersey and New York City until being relegated to yard work in 1924." Visible in the background is one of the RRMP's exhibit halls during its construction.
