WB. Here is an image of a photo by the Rachow Studio of Pennsylvania Railroad engine #4300, an I-1SA (2-10-0) "Decapod" built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works as an I-1S during October of 1922, rebuilt in Juniata as an I-1SA in October of 1943, and retired in May of 1956 after 34 years of faithful service. This is very first of 475 Baldwin-built "Decapods." The exact date and the location are not recorded. William E. Burket Collection.

WB. Here is an image of a photo by an unidentified photographer that was taken in Altoona, Pennsylvania, c. 1956. Partially visible here (L to R) are Pennsylvania Railroad engines #4402 and #6732. Both were built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works. #4402 is an I-1SA (2-10-0) "Decapod" constructed as an I-1S during March of 1923, rebuilt in Juniata as an I-1SA in May of 1941, and retired in September of 1959. #6732 is an M-1B built as an M-1A during May of 1930, rebuilt in Juniata as an M-1B in September of 1946, and retired in September of 1959. They're being stored in serviceable condition near the East Altoona Coaling Tipple. William E. Burket Collection.

WB. Here is an image of a photo that was taken near Kittanning, Pennsylvania, c. 1912. Shown here is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #3391, a K-2 (4-6-2) "Pacific" built in Juniata as a K-2 during July of 1911, later rebuilt as a K-2S, and retired in February of 1947 after 36 years of faithful service. Apparently, this train became stalled in an impassible snowdrift and several crew members froze to death! The names of the photographer and the shivering crewman, as well as the exact date and the location, are not recorded. William E. Burket Collection.

Prominent here is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #5698, a K-5 (4-6-2) "Pacific" built in Juniata during April of 1929 and retired in October of 1952. Partially visible at the right is PRR engine #436, a B-8A (0-6-0T) tank switcher built in Juniata as a Class B during 1912, rebuilt as a B-8A in June of 1924, and retired in October of 1956. Shown here (L to R) is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #9547, an "EF" Class B unit, plus a pair of Fairbanks-Morse ERIE-A units. #9547 is an EH-15 built by GM-EMD in November of 1948, rated at 1,500 horsepower, later rebuilt as an EF-15A, and retired in December of 1963 after just 15 years of service. They're passing SLOPE Tower with a long string of hopper cars on their way up the Allegheny Mountains to Gallitzin, where the first two units will be uncoupled and returned to East Altoona for their next assignment. Parked near the Pennsylvania Railroad's East Altoona Coaling Tipple are several deadlined diesel-electric locomotives. Among them is engine #7739, an FS-20 road switcher built by Fairbanks-Morse as number "8939" in April of 1951, rated at 2,000 horsepower, renumbered "7739" in preparation for the PRR-NYC merger, and retired in December of 1966 after just 15 years of revenue service. The Tipple was not long for this world either; it was demolished in April of 1968. William E. Burket Collection.
