Album Info:Here are both covers and the complete contents of a pamphlet published by the Pennsylvania Railroad entitled "100 Years of Progress in Modern Railroading." Covering the years 1833 to 1933, it was distributed during the Century of Progress International Exposition ~ i.e., the Chicago World's Fair. The Exposition was open during the Summers of 1933 and 1934; the grand total of attendance for the two years was 48,769,227! "One of the purposes of the Pennsylvania Railroad's exhibit at the Century of Progress International Exposition is to remind the public of the fact that the railroads render service of a character not performed, or capable of being performed, by other transportation agencies."

Description:  Here is the "1895" portion of a pamphlet published by the Pennsylvania Railroad entitled "100 Years of Progress in Modern Railroading." Covering the years 1833 to 1933, it was distributed during the Chicago World's Fair of 1933-1934. Partial Text: "It was a State-owned project built to connect the City and Port of Philadelphia with the State system of canals on the Susquehanna and Juniata Rivers, by which the boats were moved to the foot of the Allegheny Mountains at Hollidaysburg, Pa. From that point the canal boats were drawn across the mountains on wheeled trucks, by means of stationary engines and cables, and placed in another canal extending to Pittsburgh. The purpose was to give Philadelphia a commercial route to and from the new West, via the Ohio and Mississippi Rivers."

Description:  Here is the back cover of a pamphlet published by the Pennsylvania Railroad entitled "100 Years of Progress in Modern Railroading." Covering the years 1833 to 1933, it was distributed during the Chicago World's Fair of 1933-1934. Included here is a description of the PRR's exhibit ~ which featured a full-sixed steam locomotive cab, position-light signals, five mural paintings, four three-dimensional dioramas, as well as a frieze around the exhibit painted in the PRR's standard red and gold!
