Here is page nine of a 12-page camera study entitled "Horseshoe Curve Pictorial." It was published originally in the Winter 2004 issue of "Keystone" magazine, page 40. Middle Photo, Partial Caption: "New York-to-Pittsburgh Aerotrain, in the summer of 1956." Bottom Photo, Partial Caption: "Centipede #5834 assisting a westbound freight up Horseshoe Curve, circa 1956." Pennsylvania Railroad engine #5834 was built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works in 1948; it was designed to be a 3,000 horsepower passenger locomotive (BP-60A), but was later downgraded to be a 2,500 horsepower freight and helper engine (BH-50). Also visible is PRR N-5 caboose #477724. Both photos by Ken Murry. |
